This is one of the most attractive of Mediterranean plants. L. stoechas is a perennial, shrubby plant which seem to produce large numbers of stems each with purple flowers contrasting with the greyish green foliage. It is a garden plant frequently seen in British garden centres and nurseries and has been grown as a crop from which an aromatic oil is distilled for use in perfume.
