Kniphofia x praecox   Greater Red-hot Poker C DD I

Kniphofia x praecox whole Kniphofia x praecox flower

This introduction from South Africa is a popular garden plant and is distinguished from K. uvaria (Red-hot Poker) by the exserted stamens very obvious in this photo. It is thought to be a hybrid between K. bruceae and K. linearifolia. At this site the plants have been naturalised in rough grassland between a golf course and the sea for many years.

Although absent from Ireland this plant has been recorded from site all over mainland Britain but not in large numbers.
