Grevillea speciosa Red Spider Flower Endemic
Although only found around the Sydney area in Eastern Australia, this was not an uncommon shrub in the bush. The very long structures in the flower are actually pollen presenters to enable the pollinating birds (usually Honeyeaters) to be dusted with pollen before going to another Grevillea plant. The shape of this particular Grevillea tells you why a general common name for these members of the Proteaceae family is "Spider Plants".
