Gentiana acaulis Trumpet Gentian
This is the commonest of the splendid trumpet Gentians which are seen frequently in these hills but the differences between this and others are subtle. The biggest differences are seen at the base of the Trumpet where different shaped bracts give the clue to the identify of the species. Green spotting inside the trumpet is also a characteristic of this Gentian.
Gentiana acaulis is found on the southern Alps, the Pyrenees and the Jura mountains at heights of up to 8,000 feet.
