Fritillaria elwesii Endemic
Endemic to Turkey, this inconspicuous fritillary can often be concealed against the background with its green and brown colouration and thin leaves. It usually grows near the coast in forest or scrub at heights of up to 4000 feet. Although it is an unspectacular plant compared with many in this genus, it can be grown in temperate climates so is often found on sale in nurseries selling alpines in the British isles and elsewhere.
