Filipendula vulgaris   Dropwort C DD N

Filipendula vulgaris whole Filipendula vulgaris close

In mid-Spring the Dropwort flowers in grassy meadows on basic soils. Although it's only a white flower there is something very elegant about this plant with its pink buds, many flower heads and prominent anthers. The leaves are quite different from F. ulmaria and the flower head has larger florets which are less crowded.

Dropwort is mostly found in England although there is a good concentration in Pembrokeshire in Wales. Elsewhere it is dotted about with only a little in Scotland, mainly in the east and very little in Ireland.
