Epilobium ciliatum   American Willowherb I

Epilobium ciliatum

This introduced plant was first found in 1891 but has spread throughout the whole of England and Wales and much of southern Scotland too. There are raised lines on the stem and the plant is hairy with glandular hairs. It has a club shaped stigma and the leaves are usually opposite.

Apart from the far north of Scotland this introduction has naturalised itself throughout mainland Britain and fairly well in Ireland too.
