Drimea maritima Sea Squill
Growing on a hillside only a few miles from the sea, this plant was plentiful in a very dry landscape. It can grow to 1.4 m tall and many of the plants here were at least that if not taller. The flowers attract the insects too although the extreme drought this land had suffered meant that there weren't that many flowers from which nectar and pollen could be gathered by foraging bees. Drimea maritima, formerly Urginea maritima is found typically on hillsides in many Mediterranean countries and although poisonous, has been used in heart remedies throughout the ages.
