Diuris corymbosa Donkey Orchid
There are about 50 species of Diuris growing in various parts of the world and this one, D. corymbosa, is very common around the Perth area. In fact it grows so well here that on a bus journey through the suburbs of Perth, I saw an unkempt garden full of these orchids growing in the uncut grass of the front lawn. It is not uncommon to find patches of 30 or 40 of these orchids growing together.
The Donkey ears on the flowers and grass like leaves are typical but there are quite a few species and sub species which have not yet been properly characterised in Western Australia so some are recorded as Diuris aff. corymbosa (like a D. corymbosa).
