Dianthus armeria Deptford Pink R DD N
There were very few of this exquisitely marked Pink to be found at this particular site but plenty of buds indicating that perhaps our Wild Flower Society meeting had arrived early in the flowering period. It is a small plant with most individuals only a few centimetres high and easily missed in the coastal turf.
This species is mostly found in southern Britain with many records before 1930 and far fewer from 2000 onwards. There are some older records for Scotland, a few records for south Wales and it has been introduced into Ireland in a few places.
