Coenonympha pamphilus   Small Heath

Coenympha pamphilus Coenympha pamphilus Italy

The Small Heath is rarely seen with open wings and is skittish in warm weather so the English photograph is a long range one. In Italy the much colder (mid March in England) temperatures allowed closer approach to an insect trying to get warm in a short period of sunshine.
