Clavulinopsis helvola   Yellow Club

clavulinopsis helvola

This bright orange/yellow fungus appears each year in little tufts in the grass. We don't have a lawn - we have grass which isn't fed but is cut regularly. The dominant plant species in the grass isn't a grass at all but Cotula squalidus. The actual size of the fungus is about 1 to 2 cm only. Although this is the commonest of this type of yellow grassland species it is only accurately determined by looking for the coarsly spiny spores and I don't have a microscope (yet).
