Cheilanthes austrotenuifolia   Rock Fern

Cheilanthes austrotenuifolia

This was a very different habitat from the bush type of place we had seen so often on the tour. Large outcrops of granite held water close by so that there were unusual (for Australia) damp or even wet places in the hot sun. In the shelter of a large lump of granite this elegant fern was growing. It was until recently known as Cheilanthes tenuifolia but that is now recognised as a different northern species while this is the southern.
