Carex rostrata   Bottle Sedge C DD N

Carex rostrata

Bottle Sedge typically grows actually in the water of a pond or bog pool and has these light green spikes of fruit which remind some people of a bottle brush. The seed cases or utricles trap air inside them to help the flowering spike float in deep water.

Carex rostrata is found throughout Ireland, Scotland, northern England and Wales but there are fewer records in central and southern England.
