Carex elata   Tufted Sedge C DD N

Carex elata whole Carex elata fruit

This is one of the larger sedges with many tufts growing in the mud and shallow water around the edge of Hatchmere in Cheshire along with the occasional much larger C. paniculata (Greater Tussock-sedge).

It is found in reasonable numbers in England particularly in the east but is hardly recorded at all from Scotland. It is a common sedge in Ireland.
