Butomus umbellatus   Flowering Rush N

Butomus umbellatus

This is a very beautiful water plant when in full flower and we were lucky to see this one, obviously towards the end of its flowering period, at the edge of the River Wye. It was inaccessible so I had to use the telephoto which although adequate doesn't really capture the best of B. umbellatus.

This plant is fairly common in England, east Wales and less common in southern Scotland but dotted around in Ireland. There are few records from northern Scotland.
