Bupleurum falcatum   Sickle-leaved Hare's-ear

Bupleurum falcatum whole Bupleurum falcatum close

Also known as Chinese Thorowax, Bupleurum falcatum is native in Asia and Europe although very occasionally it has been recorded in the UK. It is a large umbellifer unlike some of the other rather small species in this genus.

A decoction (usually boiling with water) of the roots is used as a herb with other ingredients to cure digestive and liver complaints in the far east.
