Buddleja globosa   Orange-ball-tree DD I

Buddleja globosa

I remember being quite taken aback when told that this Orange-ball-tree was a Buddleja because the colour and shape of the flowers is so different from the common Buddleja davidii (Butterfly Bush). Closer examination shows that the leaves however are quite similar although more "blistered" on this plant than the Butterfly bush. There are no identification difficulties as there is no other shrub which looks like it.

The distribution of this South American introduction is dotted through the UK and Ireland but the greatest frequency of records is in the South of England particularly round the London area where this was seen.
