Bryonia dioica White Bryony C DD N
Stace says that this plant prefers base rich soils but my own observation is that it is a persistent hedgerow plant growing quite happily on our very acid sandstone based soils here in Cheshire. Indeed the distribution of this plant throughout England and very common in the East suggest that it can't be too fussy about the PH of the soil. This one was flat on the ground so it was easy to take photographs. It is however a climber and tangles itself in our hedges producing white flowers in mid to late summer.
