Bauera rubioides River Rose
Like many Australian plants, this one is named after people. The Ferdinand and Franz Bauer were Austrian brothers famous for being amongst the very best botanical illustrators of their time (1750s to 1800s). The rubioides species name refers to something with which British botanists would be very familiar: Rubia peregrina (Wild Madder) the leaves of which are very similar.
Bauera rubioides is common around or near the coast of south eastern Australia and in Tasmania. Unlike many Australian species, it can easily be grown in gardens.
