Aubrieta deltoadea

I have seen this common garden plant escape occasionally but was amazed to see that this one was on a sea wall facing the spray where normally only halophytes would survive. It seemed to be in good condition too and was there in the same exposed place three years later in 2008.

This plant with a confusing name (the English name is nearly the same as the Latin) has successfully escaped into the countryside in England, Wales and southern scotland but is rarer as you travel northwards. It is only found in a few sites in eastern Ireland.
