Atriplex halimus   Shrubby Orache C DD I

Atriplex halimus

Unlike so many of the Atriplex family this one is a shrub with attractive light grey leaves and small insignificant flowers. It is a European introduction which perhaps shows the difference between the climate on the Channel islands and that of the mainland. The plant is now not uncommon on Guernsey and is spreading, while on the mainland in Southern Britain it is rare and doesn't spread according to Stace.

It is also found on the mainland of Britain but mostly along the south coast. It is absent from Ireland, Wales and Scotland.
