Astrantia major Great Masterwort
A slight pinkish hue on the paper-like flowers of this distinctive plant is typical but otherwise the flowers look as though they have been created by someone skilled in origami. The plant is not particularly tall and the leaves were often hidden in the rest of the lush vegetation of these flower-filled meadows.
Astrantia major can be found in the Alps and Pyrenees as well as the Picos de Europea in northern Spain at heights of up to 6,500 feet.
