Asplenium trichomanes ssp quadrivalens   Maidenhair Spleenwort C DD N

Asplenium trichomanes

I often find this delicate little fern on or near basic rocks like limestone but there is a rarer sub species which prefers acidic conditions too (ssp trichomanes). Asplenium trichomanes is fairly common both in rocky countryside and in built up areas. This one is most probably ssp quadrivalens as the rocks in these parts are basic and ssp trichomanes has not been recorded from this area.

This sub species is fairly common throughout the British Isles.
