Aristolochia paucinervis
Previously known as Aristolochia longa ssp paucinervis, this plant has now gained full species status as Aristolochia paucinervis. As with most of the Birthworts, the strange shape of the flower is connected with pollination. An insect crawls into the flower attracted by the smell (not fragrance) and is trapped by the hairs at the mouth. Overnight the hairs shrivel and the insect can escape next morning covered in pollen.
