Related to the British low growing Anthyllis vulneraria (Kidney Vetch), this plant was a large shrub growing on a cliff. It is a common seaside Mediterranean shrub from Spain to Greece and is also found on the north African coast. The species name is a translation of the common name: "barba" = beard, "jovis" = of Jupiter
