Cushions of this low growing alpine would be covered in blooms hiding the grey green rosettes of linear leaves when the sun shines but it was a bit dull on the day we saw it. The name has changed quite often and it has been variously been known as Douglasii vitaliana, Androsace primuliflora and even now The Plant List says it is correctly written as Vitaliana primuliflora while Tela Botanica says Androsace vitaliana.

Androsace vitaliana is found is found often on acid soils and in stony places in mountains from 5,500 feet to 10,000 feet in the Pyrenees, Alps, the Apennines and occasionally on various Spanish mountains.
