Anagyris foetida Stinking Bean Trefoil
This is a shrub which at this site was about 1.5 metres in height and covered in quite large yellow pea flowers. This early in the season the fruits were hardly developed but in the few cases where beans could be seen they were long compared with the flower and eventually will cover the bush in long dangling pods. I could detect no bad smells from the bush but it by reputation the crushed leaves or rotting fruit which is foetid.
A. foetida is found throughout the Mediterranean countries.
