Hirundo rustica   Swallows in Nest

Hirundo rustica

The parents dive-bomb anything which threatens the nest which includes me of course, the cat, magpies and crows. They make quite racket and I dash to the rescue but they don't appreciate it.

Eventually all the nestlings lined up on a nearby shelf with parents feeding them. I went in to see how they were getting on and parents flew out immediately with the usual insults aimed in my directions. The little ones then followed with great ease and speed the last one pausing for just a second to dump on me as it passed.

They were fed by the parents for a week or so but now (June 28th 2006) the parents are busy building a new nest right by the front door of the house.
