Taraxacum obliquum    Many-lobed Dandelion N

Taraxacum obliquum

After botanising in Balblair Woods in 2006, I decided to travel further up the road to Littleferry where there are dunes with the possibility of further rare plants. I found this Dandelion which, even though I know next to nothing of this genus at species level, looked a bit odd. So I took a few photos.

In 2023 many more botanists are interested in identifying Dandelions to species level and there are now excellent books available to help. This photo has been identified by expert Taraxologists and appears to be relatively rare in Britain and Ireland.

Taraxacum obliquum, one of only two British species in section Obliqua, is found in a few places in the British Isles on northern coastal sites mostly and on the continent in Norway, Sweden, Denmark and the Netherlands plus a few sites in the Caucasus.
