Silene flos-cuculi   Ragged Robin CC DD N

Lychnis flos-cuculi white whole Lycnis flos-cuculi pink whole

The commonest colour for Silene flos-cuculi is pink - exactly the same colour as the very common Silene dioica (Red Campion) but very occasionally you can find the white flowered form and this little colony appears regularly at this site on Anglesey. These days it can be seen on motorway verges sometimes in the thousands.

Silene flos-cuculi prefers damp or even wet places and can be found almost anywhere in the British Isles and Ireland. There are a only few places in east Anglia where it is uncommon and in Scotland on the high northern mountains slopes but it is common elsewhere.

Silene flos-cuculi is a new name for Lychnis flos-cuculi which appeared in 2010 in New Flora of the British Isles by Clive Stace Edition 3.
