Papaver dubium   Long-headed Poppy CCC DD N

Papaver dubium whole Papaver dubium close

This is the commonest of the two common poppies  (P. dubium and P. rhoeas) at least in northern England. Often it is a good deal paler than P. rhoeas looking almost orange from a distance. The seed heads are quite long and distinctly different from P. rhoeas though, and it will happily grow on wasteland where P. rhoeas generally prefers a grassy habitat.

P. dubium is found throughout England, Wales, southern Scotland and eastern Ireland but is uncommon in north western Scotland and western Ireland.
