Lycaena phlaeas   Small Copper

Lycaena phlaeas Lycaena phlaeas

This butterfly is an irregular visitor to our garden but not uncommon locally. It tends to perch in the short grass or on leaves and then fly off before I can get close but on this occasion I found one gorging on Origanum vulgare (Marjoram) which is a favourite for bees and buuterflies alike.
