Hyacinthoides hispanica   Spanish Bluebell

Hyacinthoides hispanica whole Hyacinthoides hispanica close

There was little of this plant at the top of this Spanish mountain but it had the open bell shaped flowers well known to English gardeners. This is reputed to be the species invading our wild spaces in the British Isles and displacing the native H. non-scripta (Bluebell) but it is the hybrid H x massartiana which is the invader. H. hispanica is rarely seen in the wild in Britain.
