Geleznowia verrucosa   Yellow Bells Endemic

Geleznowia verrucosa whole Geleznowia verrucosa close

The genus is named after a Russian botanist, Nikolai Zheleznov and this is the only species in that genus. The lumps on the stems of this small endemic shrub which look a bit like warts, give rise to the species name : verrucosa. It is a plant which can tolerate dry conditions and we found it in arid stony soil on a very hot day near Kalbarri. It has been favoured by florists in the past as it lasts well and that has meant that plants have been taken and wild populations somewhat reduced.
