If you knew in advance of seeing this for the first time that it was a member of the Convolvulaceae family then it would fit with other species seen, particularly those in Europe. This is why it was once known as Ipomoea modesta (a species of Morning Glory) .

It is a climbing plant with greyish leaves contrasting nicely with its blue, very Convolvulus-like looking flowers. It is named after Louis Isidore Duperrey who was an officer in the 18th century French navy and who collected specimens for the the botanist Charles Gaudichaud-Beaupré.

Duperreya sericea occurs mostly in Western Australia and the most frequent records are for the area around Shark bay and inland from there.
